Introduction

The BIOME Project is dedicated to understanding the waters off of the coast of the Delmarva Peninsula. We wish to develop a Virginia component of the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System encompassing the coastal regions of Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. Our program is diverse and serves to describe the temporal and spatial variability of the biology, physics, and chemistry of the region. We are embarking on seasonal cruises in the coastal ocean and performing bi-weekly cross-shelf surveys. We are currently working on the development of a coastal bio-optical buoy system. Our buoy will provide near real-time profiles of the ocean temperature, salinity, density, nitrate, chlorophyll a and other bio-optical parameters. We are conducting technology development of a surface autonomous vehice which we call OASIS or Ocean Atmosphere Sensor Integration System. This project is funded by NASA and NOAA and we welcome collaborations. Please contact us!
